For emergency cases (arrests/detentions), we aim to connect you within 15-30 minutes. For non-urgent matters, expect a response within 2-4 hours during helpline hours.

Yes. All legal assistance through CJP Legal Aid is pro-bono. Our volunteer advocates donate their time. We never charge applicants for legal aid.

Minimum required: email, phone number, and a password to create your account, plus your location (state/district). All other details are shared at your comfort level and only with your assigned advocate.

You need a phone number for verification, but your identity is protected on the platform. Your name and contact details are NOT shared with the advocate until you explicitly choose to share them.

Ask for identification, note down their details, ask the reason for visit. You are not obligated to go with them without a warrant for bailable offences. Do not sign anything without reading. Contact us immediately.

Right to know grounds of arrest, right to inform a relative, right to a lawyer, right to be produced before magistrate within 24 hours, right against self-incrimination, right to free legal aid.

For bailable offences, bail is a right and can be obtained at the police station. For non-bailable offences, you need to apply to the court. Anticipatory bail can be filed if you fear arrest.

FIR (First Information Report) is the first document filed when a cognizable offence is reported. You are entitled to a free copy. If police refuse, approach the SP or Judicial Magistrate.

Depends on the content and applicable sections. However, the Supreme Court has set guidelines (Arnesh Kumar v. State of Bihar) restricting arrest for offences with less than 7 years imprisonment. Contact us for specific guidance.

Yes. All communications are encrypted. Your data is shared only with your assigned advocate. We never share data with third parties, government agencies, or use it for any purpose other than legal assistance.

Not by default. Communication happens through our encrypted platform chat. You choose when and if to share your phone number with the advocate.

You can report a concern anonymously through the platform. The report goes to our admin team who will investigate and can reassign your case. The advocate will not be informed of the report.

We maintain minimal data and follow strict data retention policies. Privileged communications between lawyer and client are protected under the Indian Evidence Act (Section 126).

Click "Volunteer" on the homepage, create an account with your email and phone number, and fill in your Bar Council enrollment number, practice areas, and availability. Our team will verify your enrollment and approve your registration.

Cases are matched based on your location (state/district), practice areas, and availability status. You can also browse and pick up unassigned cases from the "Available Cases" pool.

Yes. Auto-assigned cases give you the option to accept or release back to the pool. You can also set preferences for case types and maximum active cases.

Contact the applicant within 30 minutes of accepting (for critical cases), provide pro-bono assistance, and keep the case status updated on the platform.

Donations fund platform operations, court filing fees for applicants who cannot afford them, travel costs for advocates attending cases, and awareness programs.

Yes. CJP Legal Aid is registered under Section 80G. Donations are eligible for tax deduction. You will receive a receipt via email.

Yes. The name field is optional. However, for 80G tax receipts, we need your name and PAN.
